Since the beginning of May, we’ve been working with producer Jon Chinn on new songs for our upcoming EP, Delicate Nature of Things. Jon is based in Brooklyn, NY and has been involved with Here Inside since the very beginning mixing and/or mastering all of our releases to date, starting with the 2015 instrumental EP Starboard. He mixed three songs on the Ordinary Days EP that we released in April and brought so many fresh ideas to the table during those sessions, that I asked him to help produce the rest of the songs that we’re planning to release on the next EP.
Jon is playing different roles in relation to these songs. He’s helping us brainstorm ideas around instrumentation and arrangements. We’ve been working through each song, adding and removing parts and sculpting the sounds and textures. Because he’s in Brooklyn, we’ve been embracing the recent overwhelming global comfort with remote technology, doing sessions over Zoom and it’s been working really well. All of the tracking is happening in my home studio here in Lancaster, and when that’s finished Jon will mix and master the final tracks in his studio in Brooklyn.
Right now we’re working on the third of five new songs, making steady progress each week. There’s no hurry to rush these tracks out but on the other hand we couldn’t be more excited to share what we’ve been working on over the past couple of years! More to come.
